The village has not suffered the shame of uncontrolled concreting. Everything is neat, rigorous, a little German. And indeed, Titsch, the Germanic language, is the language of this valley. It was the Walsers, an ancient population of Germanic origin, who brought it with them when they crossed these mountains in the 12th century. The architecture of the houses still bears the signs of the culture of this people, lovers of the high mountains and keepers of old traditions. The village church was built in 1671, when the two communities of Gressoney separated. The Savoyard baroque altar and the wheel tabernacle are particularly noteworthy. The cemetery adjacent to the church entrance is also worth a visit to admire the historical epitaphs from the 19th century, most of which are written in German and handmade by local sculptors. At the foot of Monte Rosa, Gressoney-La Trinité is the resort with the most hotels and the closest to the ski lifts, while Gressoney-Saint-Jean is more residential Monterosa ski area: 180 km of runs (72% red, 11% black, 17% blue). Altitude: 1,212-3,250 m. This area of Valle d'Aosta located at the foot of Monte Rosa is composed of three valleys (Lys, Ayas, Valsesia) and four slopes (Champoluc, Frachey, Gressoney-La Trinité and Alagna Valsesia). The very high average altitude (between 1,650 and 3,275 metres, with the vast majority of runs above 2,000 m) ensures excellent snow cover until the end of April. The excellent new lifts are very efficient. The resort is suitable for all levels of skiers as beginners will be able to get a "village" pass for one valley, while the more experienced can opt for the "3 valleys" pass. The most adventurous skiers will meet here to descend the "blackest" run in Europe, the Leonardo David run at Weismatten, named after the young champion from Grisons who died at the age of 25 in a fall during a competition, lit up at night. The new Mera snowpark and the downhill slope are worth noting here. The Piedmont side of Alagna is known as the "Freeride paradise", having one of the largest off-piste areas in the Italian Alps
