In this valley, three small hamlets (Ortisei, Santa Cristina Valgardena, Selva di Val Gardena) have ended up forming a very popular town for the beauty of its site and the quality of its environment. Most houses are secondary residences, and hotels are legion. However, it is a forced passage to discover the right-hand side of the valley, where there are still lots of small, more authentic villages. Local crafts, carved wood, are very well known and have made the valley known throughout the world.
