Sandavágur, voted the best preserved town in the archipelago, lies not far from its neighbor Miðvágur, halfway between the airport and Oyrargjov, where you board the ship to Vestmanna on the island of Streymoy. Its name means "sandy stream" in reference to the beach near the cove. This is the area where wooden hulls for boats are still made after the Viking model. To the east of Sandavágur, a very sharp rock detached from the cliff is called "Trollkonufingur" which means "the witch's finger". Witches are also mentioned in the legend of Fjallavatn lake.
