Fuglafjørður is the fourth largest town in the archipelago (1,538 inhabitants) and has a lively and colourful harbour. The village lies at the end of a bay and develops on the surrounding steep hills. Excavations have revealed occupation of the site as early as the middle of the 10th century. The Varmakelda hot spring, with its healing properties, is located a little further south of the town. Its temperature, about 18 degrees, is constant throughout the year. On the first weekend in July, the Feringians gather here to celebrate the summer solstice. There is singing, talking and a good time by the fire.
