These two islands between Suðuroy and Skúgvoy have captured the imagination of the Faroese and given rise to many legends. Children are told that the smaller of the two islands is often covered by a cloud, even in the middle of a blue sky, because a troll is cooking there... Lítla Dímun is not inhabited. Nevertheless, a few cans of food are still left behind: the reason is the sinking of a Norwegian ship. The sailors took refuge on the island. Installed in a cavity, they were able to make a fire and cook a sheep before perishing one after the other. One of the survivors, exhausted, threw the ashes of the extinguished fire into the air, which attracted the attention of a fisherman from Suðuroy. Since then, coal - there is a small mine in Suðuroy -, matches, canned food and drinking water are stored in this cavity in case of possible shipwreck. Moreover, puffins are very numerous on this island and, at its top, there is a lake whose water is said to be able to cure all diseases..
