Between Bran and Brașov, this commune of 15,000 inhabitants is home to a beautiful medieval citadel, among the best preserved in the region. Situated on a promontory, which can be reached via a forest path in 20 minutes (or in 2 minutes by funicular), it offers a magnificent view of the Brașov plain and the Bucegi mountains. Râșnov is also home to some interesting caves: peștera Valea Cetății, on the road to Poiana Brașov (10am-8pm, until 6pm in winter, admission €6) and peștera Râșnoavei (free admission), accessible by a one-hour walk, starting from the town center (markings: white stripe). Numerous buses and a few trains from Brașov.
