In this resort of 8,500 inhabitants, located 8 kilometers north of Sinaia, you can see magnificent chalets on the mountainsides, with gardens in bloom in season. The village, surrounded by fir forests, is dominated by a cross overlooking a 1,500 m rock face (Mount Caraiman, 2,348 m) and the Coştila peak (2,498 m, recognizable by its TV tower). Buşteni, from where the cable car to Babele departs (from 8:30 a.m., €23 one way) is the best starting point for exploring the Bucegi mountains. The village is also considered the capital of Romanian mountaineering.
