The municipality of Mihăeşti is located 8 kilometres west of Valecea Valecea, on the route of Târgu Jiu. Its white walls and dark wooden circular balconies, mood by flowers in summer, are delightful. This monastery of nuns dates back to 1492 and was therefore high during Radu's reign the Great. Matei Basarab later transformed it into a major typography workshop. There is Pravila de la Govora, the oldest book of Wallachia laws. The current church was built by Prince Constantin Brâncoveanu. A small museum displays religious objects and old manuscripts.
