Las Médulas was a gigantic exploitation from which the Romans extracted nearly a million kilos of gold for the Empire. Today, it remains a fantastic landscape. From the Orellana viewpoint, you will take your breath away: a phantasmagoria of caves and cones of red earth punctuated by patches of vegetation. They have been declared a Natural Monument by UNESCO since 2002. There are several well signposted routes that you can take on your own, starting from the Aula Arqueológica. The Visitors Reception Centre also offers a 3 km round-trip guided tour through the open-air galleries.
