The Romans soon appreciated the thermal springs (68°C), as well as the gold-bearing waters (hence the name of the town) of the river Miño, which flows under a long bridge built at that time. In addition to this thermal tourism, Orense tries to highlight its historical centre, which is quite pretty. The historic centre of Orense, a real village within the city, has some medieval streets surrounding the cathedral. Before leaving, don't miss the chance to smell the sulphurous water that has been flowing in the Burgas fountains since ancient times. However, this city of nearly 106,000 inhabitants does not manage to hide the rampant urbanization that disfigures it. Orense does not deserve more than a half-day stroll. We'll spend most of our time there before heading for the Sil Gorges. For those in the know, the city is also the home of the designer Adolfo Domínguez, the leader of Spanish fashion.
