The village of Valledoria is best known for its huge beach, which runs for more than 8 uninterrupted kilometres. Bordered by the river Coghina which forms a lagoon, Valledoria has no direct access to the beach. Instead, the village serves as a supply base for the huge campsites that occupy its surroundings. Historically, Valledoria was attached to the Judiciary of Torres, before being bought by the very rich and very Genoese Doria family. An important plague epidemic in the 15th century almost decimated the population. It was not until the 19th century and an internal migration from Tempio Pausania that the village came back to life.
