10 km from Castelsardo, inland, Tergu is home to a jewel of Romanesque architecture. The construction of the Nostra Signora di Tergu church dates back to the 12th century and clearly shows its Pisan influence. Built in pink trachyte stone and white limestone, its dimensions are astonishing in this rural and sparsely inhabited setting. It was actually attached to a Benedictine monastery which has now completely disappeared. A Roman necropolis containing stelae and funerary urns has been unearthed near the nuraghe Colbu. The village of Tergu, tiny and long, has houses typical of the Sardinian countryside.
