Surrounded by the unusual shapes of the Aggius mountains, this small village is one of the most picturesque in Sardinia, classified as being of national interest by the Italian Tourism Commission. It has carefully preserved its ancient character, and is distinguished by its solid granite architecture. Located in the heart of the Gallura, Aggius is the last centre of traditional Sardinian wool carpet production in the region. An interesting ethnographic museum is housed in an old weaving mill. Aggius, a former stronghold of banditry, is also a starting point to visit the "Valley of the Moon", large granite rocks emerging from a plateau.
