These two villages came together after the sugar cane crisis and the ensuing population decline. In San Andrés, a beautiful small sloping village with pebble-paved streets and surrounded by banana plantations, you will discover its church, built in 1515, which houses the statue of Nuestra Señora de Montserrat. Not far from San Andrés, you can swim in the natural seawater pools of the Charco Azul. A little further north, the small fishing port of Puerto Espindola is famous for its rum production. It was for a long time an important economic outlet for the surrounding villages, before the northern road opened up the region.
