It's a pretty little village in Teno, the last one before the point of the same name. When it was founded in 1498, part of the land belonged to Juan Méndez el Viejo, who built the hacienda de la Fuente, from which the village grew. Its expansion is partly due to the arrival of Andalusian emigrants, especially the Triana district founded by Sevillians. But the city was mainly populated by Portuguese emigrants, as is proved by the first parish register, which was started in 1512, written in Portuguese.
