In this municipality, the population is very scattered. This site has been occupied since prehistoric times, as it allowed people to live there thanks to the presence of numerous caves. But it is the story of the Benahorita people, the aborigines of La Palma, that has gradually come to light in recent years. And has led to the discovery of many remains that are now on display at the Benahorita Archaeological Museum (MBA) in Los Llanos. During the colonization, Puntagorda remained quite marginalized by the new economy set up by the Spanish lords and was converted into the granary of the island and intended to provide wheat and gofio.
