It was only a rich estate until the inhabitants had the idea of irrigating these huge banana plantations by drawing water from the caldera of Taburiente. The estate prospered and grew to give birth to Los Llanos de Aridane. Today nearly 500 ha of bananas and 100 ha of avocados are grown on this side of the island. An economic growth that required a certain modernization of the city, which resembles more an urban centre than a Canary Islands village. You will have to go beyond the main avenues, enter the small streets, reach the Plaza España and the church of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios to discover the charms of the city.
