The road that winds from Kritinia to Monolithos is splendidly secluded, with majestic sea views. The medieval fortress, perched on a monolith, was built in 1476 by the Knights of the Order of St. John, probably on the site of a Byzantine fortress. Today, only part of its impressive walls remain, along with the touching Saint-Pantaléon chapel. Come here at sunset: the panoramas are exceptional, between sea and mountains, and seem to give a crazy power to this setting of ruins. Down below, Fourni beach is secluded and magical, though exposed to the winds. Here you'll find a small beach bar.
