10 km from Thira, on the way to the east coast, this picturesque village overlooks both sides of Santorini. Its narrow streets date back to the Middle Ages and form a labyrinth in which it's pleasant to get lost. You'll love the beauty of the architecture of the well-preserved houses, churches and other buildings. A number of windmills can be spotted in the distance, symbols of the village's past prestige. The village's name means "trade" and echoes the days when it was an important trading post. From the days of the pirates and Ottomans, a square tower(goulas) remains in the northern part of the village.
