Social life and population are concentrated in Chora, on the heights of the island. Indeed, even if one discovers Schinoussa through the tiny port of Mersini, one quickly leaves it to go up to the central plateau of the island where the chora is located. There, a main street with its cafés and a few rare shops. Life is calm during the day in Chora: it wakes up at the end of the day and especially once night falls. Then, the whole island meets there to wander continuously in the main street. You greet each other, get news, have a drink, then continue a few meters further on where you greet another acquaintance, get news from another friend and drink to the health of another relative. And so every evening in a joyful hubbub that remains of absolute serenity, but which can easily lead to an impromptu and generalized party. By comparison, the port of Mersini is surprisingly languid. There are no notable monuments or churches to visit in Schinoussa: simply the village life to be lived from day to day and days spent discovering beaches as diverse as they are magnificent. All are accessible on foot from Chora and some are served by bus.
