A village located inland, it embodies the fertile and "vital" part of the island, thanks to its abundant water reserves. It was also used as a retreat during pirate raids in the Middle Ages. Crossing the stone bridge, you come to Menites, whose impressive springs are called "Dionysus springs" by the villagers. Near the village of Fallika, the monastery of Panahrandou, founded by Nicephorus Phocas in 961 during his expedition against the Arabs of Crete, is perched on the steep slope of Mount Gerakones. A wonderful excursion: allow 2h30 for the walk back to Chora.
