Surrounded by superb bays, the small fishing port had already attracted visitors as far back as the 19th century. Around 1870, the first villas were built on the coast by a family of merchants of Czech origin who had settled in Rijeka. Shortly afterwards, the first hotel was opened next to today's Orlando workshop. Rabac then became a popular tourist destination.
