A coastal town anchored on a peninsula in the northwest of Istria. Very close to the Italian border, very touristy, Novigrad has nevertheless kept a certain Venetian charm, especially in the historical pedestrian center. Originally Roman, Slavic in the Middle Ages, which gave it its name, it came under the domination of the Serenissima at the end of the 13th century and was largely destroyed by the incursions of the Ottoman armies at the end of the 17th century. Today you can still see the ruins of the walls of the ancient city, which remained insular until the eighteenth century. The authorities then decided to block the arm of the sea that separated it from the mainland.
