population: 564. 5 km west of Izola, on the road to Portorož. The small village, a spa resort on this peninsula, boasts ancient salt works. The site is geologically interesting, with high cliffs up to 80 m high formed of flysch strata. The Strunjan nature reserve is one of those places kept secret so as not to be spoiled by the influx of tourists. Yet it offers some of the most idyllic panoramas on the Slovenian coast, in a wild setting untouched by human activity. The sumptuous beach of Moon Bay doesn't suffer from comparison with the other little pearls of the Adriatic.
