Enclosed between two cliffs about 1 km from the village of Mellieha, it is a small bay with clear waters that owes its name to the countless number of anchors that have been found there, some of which are exhibited in the Maritime Museum of Vittoriosa. Two major attractions are worth a visit: the Popeye Village Park, which attracts large and small crowds to the site of Robert Altman's film, and the many caves for diving, including the Sorpion Cave, which is home to an abundance of underwater life, including scorpion fish, moray eels, groupers, parrot fish and octopus.
