The town was once the place of the Roche's Seigneurie seigneury and its name means "the meadow", because of the presence of reddish land in its soil. Between the th and th centuries, it had an important development thanks to the exploitation of the iron mines in the region and then to the textile industry. Rothau housed the first Textile factory in the Vallée valley, founded by Jonathan Wiedmann in 1806. Your visit cannot be conceived without a tour by the Renaissance Castle of the Dietrich family. Transformed into the th century, it is decorated with wrought iron grids inspired by the Revolution.
