An ancient medieval citadel frequently attacked, Chazay had very early a solid castle with three walls. Important vestiges still remain: Castellum gate, Balmes gate, truncated tower. The alley of the ramparts, the alleys and the narrow passages evoke this past. From the church of Saint-Pierre, attested as early as the 9th century, we will only see the entrance converted into a cellar. The Priory and the Castle of the Abbots of Ainay and the Castle of the Archbishop of Lyon date from the 16th century. Beautiful view from the top of the Belfry.
