Saint-Marcellin is a small town located in the lower valley of the Isère, also called "Pays du Sud-Grésivaudan". Former sub-prefecture, it has 7,800 inhabitants. Its name cannot fail to evoke a delicious cheese well known to cheese lovers. However, beyond this subtle dish made here, the city is rich in a historical past which still testifies some vestiges. This is notably the case of the ruins of the fortified enclosure built in the 14th century (which lasted until the 19th century) or the former Récollets convent dating from the 17th century. Also worth seeing, the Gothic bell tower (late 15th century) of the church.
