With fewer than 100 inhabitants, Beauvoir-en Royans owes its popularity to the history of its castle. Built in the 14th century by Humbert II, the last Dauphin of Viennois, it boasted over 1,000 windows. More than 2,000 people lived a dissolute life there, in the image of the Dauphin. The château was dismantled in the following century. What remained was the Carmelite convent, which became a farm in the 18th century. The village fell victim to the religious wars that ravaged the region in the 16th century, and rapidly declined. Visit the medieval site of the Carmelite convent, which, in addition to its fine ruins, houses the Musée de la Flore and the Musée des Dauphins.
