In the heart of the Aravis massif, the Thônes valley is the country of the reblochon cheese! A historical role which is conferred to it by its privileged position between lake and mountains. From Annecy to the Aravis pass, since the 19th century, Thônes has played a major role in the economic history of the valley. At that time, the town lived from the production of its local cheese (reblochon, chevrotin, tomme) and from the exploitation of wood. In the 20th century, manufacturing became industrialized, with strong growth for companies such as Mobalpa, leader in the production of kitchen furniture. Tourism has since become one of the main activities of the commune.
