A veritable balcony overlooking Mont Blanc, Combloux was originally an agricultural mountain village that began to develop as a tourist destination in the early 20th century, when the Compagnie de chemins de fer PLM (Paris-Lyon-Méditerranée), the forerunner of the SNCF (French national railways), set up its first rail links. Within a few years, the village became a must-see tourist stop, with views of Mont Blanc. In the 1920s, the PLM was even involved in the organization of the Grand Hôtel du Mont-Blanc, a luxury hotel built by a wealthy Swiss owner before 1911, which welcomed an Anglo-Saxon clientele and then personalities from all over the world. The first ski lift opened in December 1935, but the war disrupted the ascent and the hotel was converted into apartments. By the end of the 1950s, Combloux had become a full-fledged winter sports resort, as well as a summer resort!Today, the Combloux ski area, which stretches from the Portes du Mont-Blanc to the Haute Vallée d'Arly, is linked to both the Evasion Mont-Blanc ski area and the Evasion Mont-Blanc ski area. The lifts in these two areas provide access to over 450 km of slopes for skiing and snowboarding in winter, and mountain biking and hiking in summer. The panorama of the Mont-Blanc and Aravis massifs is exceptional! At an altitude of between 980 and 1,200 metres, just a stone's throw from Megève, the village offers a good alternative - friendly, sporty and reasonably priced - for families.
