There are villages that bear their name superbly... Natural gateway to the valley, the village is also bordered by the Rhône. At the confluence, Beauchastel, from the Latin Bellum Castrum, was built on a promontory around a castle of which only the ruins of an ancient keep and its hours of glory remain. At the foot of this castle - which was perhaps not as "beautiful" and imposing as that according to some historians - the town was gathered within fortifications of which there are still some traces. The centre can be visited on foot; allow about an hour to discover its charms and its nooks and crannies, its narrow streets and its medieval buildings...
