Forcalquier, nicknamed the city of the four queens, dominates the landscape. The traditions of an authentic culture can be found here, in landscapes of sublime harmony. At the very beginning of the Middle Ages, for some the town was called Font Calquier which would mean "the fountain of the rock" in Occitan, and for others Four Cauquié meaning "the lime kiln" in the Mistral language. It is true that a spring, now almost completely dried up, once flowed under the rocks of the citadel. Its main historical buildings are the Notre-Dame du Bourget cathedral, the Cordeliers convent and the Notre-Dame de Provence chapel.
