Oraison is a large town with an agricultural tradition thanks to the rich lands of the Durance valley and their irrigation. A canal that winds all along the Durance from Serre-Ponçon, and feeds several hydroelectric power stations, including an underground one located in the "poudingues" of the plateau overlooking the town, crosses it from east to west. Located at the foot of the Tholonet hill, it also has many archaeological traces of Roman occupation throughout its territory. Its church is a rare example of Gothic penetration in the region. Finally, it is a small administrative center for the surrounding municipalities.
