Le Crotoy boasts a number of assets that are unique in the region: south-facing beaches, bright lights, landscapes that change with the tides in the bay and renowned seafood products. Built on a sandbar, the town is first and foremost a port with a long fishing tradition. In the 17th century, it was one of the most important fishing ports in the English Channel. Today, the silting-up of the bay has forced the fishing boats to leave and moor in Le Tréport. Fishermen's houses mingle with the homes of holidaymakers who have come to enjoy an authentic village. Le Crotoy had its heyday in the 20th century with perfumer Guerlain.
