10 km from Saint-Nazaire, near the Brière marshes, the second largest wetland in France after the Camargue. In prehistoric times, the region was made up of numerous small islands, including "Donges", and numerous navigation routes, often marshy. In 1932, crude oil processing began on the site. In the meantime, the Pechelbronn company, which came from the Alsatian basin, settled in Donges. It was able to benefit from the facilities for importing foreign crude oil for the manufacture of petrol. The town was completely destroyed on 24 and 25 July 1944. Today, Donges is the second largest refinery in France.
