Vayrac has been memorable since 51 BC! For centuries, historians have been actively searching for the site of Uxellodunum, the name of a Gallic oppidum known to have been the site of the last battle of the Gallic Wars. Long the subject of debate, it was finally accepted that it was located at Puy d'Issolud in the commune of Vayrac. During the Second World War, the Maison Bournazel housed a number of works from the Louvre Museum, helping to safeguard art treasures. Today, Vayrac is also a lovely spot to stay in a campsite or gîte, enjoy a meal, swim, picnic or canoe.
