The village was a step on the road of salt, «lo cami del sal» between the Mediterranean and the Rouergue, hence its name meaning «the medium of salt». The counts of Rodez gave this baronnie to the Landorre who built a castle there and occupied the places for four centuries. This castle was completely destroyed in the Revolution. The parish church of Saint-Amans is very old and is very old in comparison to the village.
