Nicknamed "Little Siberia", this lively little town carries its history in its name. The huts that first made up the hamlets developed in the second half of the 18th century, at the crossroads of the old royal roads from Rodez to Toulouse and from Villefranche to Millau - today's N88 and D911 -, hence the name Baraqueville. These huts, formerly called Baraques de Fraysse, multiplied after the establishment of fairs and the construction of a railway station. At the beginning of the 20th century, everything the region produced was transported through here: in addition to fertiliser and wheat, Baraqueville and its surroundings were famous for potatoes.
