The medieval imprint of this village is still clearly present as evidenced by the half-timbered houses. Near the village, there is a fortified house built in the 15th century on a small eminence: La Montellerie. See also, nearby, the chapel of Saint-Cyrice de l'Infernet - 15th century - and that of Saint-Etienne-de-Rouffignac - Romanesque building. Truel had developed as a crossing point on the banks of the Tarn. A commercial activity had been established in addition to the fruit and wine crops that were widespread in this part of the valley. The construction of a hydroelectric plant prevented the village from withering away.
