The capital of a canton of 1,200 inhabitants, bordered by the Agly river and built as an amphitheatre on a hill, a few kilometres west of Estagel. Before the Treaty of the Pyrenees (1659), it was the first French village after the Spanish border. From this period, the village has kept some vestiges, such as the 14th century castle and some pieces of its ramparts. Very pleasant alleys in the old fortified village, leading to the old church and its 11th century tower. The wines of Latour de France are inseparable from the economic and tourist development of the village. Some say that it is the perfect terroir for viticulture. In addition to its famous cooperative cellar, there are no less than 17 winegrowers (La Bande de Latour) in the village!
