Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet is, with almost 2,000 souls, the undisputed capital of Fenouillèdes. In a corridor called the Saint Paul syncline, delimited to the north by the Corbières and to the south by the undulating hills of the Fenouillèdes, the little town is a stone's throw from the Aude and the mythical Cathar castles. At the beginning of the last century, the town was a working-class industrial town. A few kilometers to the north, the Galamus gorges, which are among the most beautiful and deepest in France, are worth a visit. The capital of the Fenouillèdes region focuses on green tourism and sports: numerous hiking and mountain bike trails, canyoning and via ferrata.
