Between the Causse Méjean and the Can-de-l'Hospitalet, the charming village of Vébron lies on a slope near the river Tarnon. A little downstream, a large boulder overhanging the river was carved out to widen the road, and became known as the Rocher des Fées (Rock of the Fairies). Legend has it that, in the past, fairies would lure travellers to this spot at night with their melodious songs, only to throw them into the river. In Salgas, north of Vébron, a castle has been rebuilt on the site of the Baron de Salgas' former castle, demolished by order of Louis XIV. The unfortunate baron was sentenced to the galleys for colluding with the Camisards.
