La Roque-sur-Cèze, just half an hour's drive from Bagnols, is considered one of the region's most beautiful villages for good reason. Perched at the top of a hill, this small medieval village with its steep streets and breathtaking views will delight lovers of old stone and authenticity, with its typical stone houses, slightly out of shape and stuck together in a slightly anarchic but very atypical way. A stroll through the village is a real pleasure, all the more so as, even in high season, the hamlet is relatively quiet and uncrowded. Below, the Cèze meanders between huge, flat, white rocks where you can sunbathe, relax or even picnic. Here, the river is also known for its famous "marmites", stretches of the Cèze encircled by rocks. However, it is strictly forbidden to swim in these "marmites", as the water creates a siphon effect and risks dragging bathers to the bottom. Rest assured, though: the pools don't cover the entire length of the river, and there are still plenty of places to swim or canoe. In any case, with its typical narrow streets lined with flowering geraniums and its refreshing river, La Roque-sur-Cèze is a real gem combining charm and history, and it would be a real shame to miss it if you happen to be in the area! The only drawback is that you can't visit the château, which is privately owned.
