Almost exclusively rural, 50% of the commune is wooded. Located to the west of Rambouillet, Mittainville comprises five hamlets: the historic center around the church, the administrative heart of Les Pâtis with its town hall and school, Vacheresse, Le Val and Launay. The Maltorne, which rises at La Boissière-Ecole and flows into the Eure at Chaudon, also flows through the village. The church of Saint-Rémy was built by Dragon de Rézeux around 1215, on the site of an earlier chapel. Built of millstone, it has a single nave without a steeple, and is listed as a Monument Historique.
