In the Middle Ages, Clichy-sous-Bois, named Clichy-en-Aulnoy, belonged to the lords of Livry. Later on, a pilgrimage center was developed in memory of a miracle attributed to the Virgin Mary. Also a hunting place, castles were built there. In January 1790, Clichy became a commune. But it is only in 1851 that the village took the name of Clichy-sous-Bois. If in the 19th century and during the first half of the 20th century the village was not affected by the industrial revolution, it is around the 1950s and 1960s that a radical transformation took place with a strong urbanization. Nevertheless, the village remains surrounded by an important wooded heritage.
