The name of the village appears in the th century. His dévellopement becomes important when the Ourcq canal was pierced in 1822 and then, when soon afterwards, the railway arrives in the commune. Industrial sites are located, including National Snow. Today, economic activity is dominated by craft and commercial activities. With a population of 51 110 inhabitants, the city has a large number of parks and gardens appreciated by pedestrians, including the edges of the canal, which have preserved a country charm.
