The origin of the name of the municipality comes from the Latin reincendere ("to burn again"), an expression that evokes forest areas cleared by fire. Originally a medieval hamlet located on the edge of the Bondy forest, Le Raincy developed around the castle park, owned by the Orléans family. Surrounded by four boulevards, this city is crossed from one end to the other by the very commercial avenue de la Résistance. Along the T4 tram-train tracks (the city has indeed found this mode of transport again after having experienced it on its territory between the beginning of the previous century and until 1938) there is a nice cycle path, which can be easily explored because there is no real difference in altitude. The city has a population of more than 14,000.
