Located along the Roman road that linked Lyon to Besançon, Rosay depended in the Middle Ages on Coligny and his "grande sirerie du Revermont". In 1294, it came under the suzerainty of the Chalon-Auxerre family. Perched on its rocky outcrop, the castle played an important role. It was also the scene of Lacuzon's exploits during French incursions into Franche-Comté. Although it escaped destruction during the various wars, it was ransacked during the French Revolution by the villagers themselves. Looted, it was later dismantled, with the locals making use of its stones. Today, it belongs to an enthusiast who has completely restored it.
