On the Champagnole-Poligny-Arbois axis, the small commune of Montrond is the level above the "bottom" Jura, at the entrance to the "top". It is also a gateway to the Moidons forest and its caves in Moidons, or the Karst karst trail (see these places in Arbois and Baume-les-Messieurs chapters). The inhabitants of Montrond are the:: hence the name of a local cheese, the Petit Mournier, which is found in the shops of the village and numerous shops of the Jura.
